Por Larrañaga Montecarlo
RM37.00 – RM43.00
The Por Larrañaga Montecarlo is a slender and elegant delicioso, a very long and slim panetela, which traces its heritage back to 1834. Por Larrañaga is the oldest Cuban brand still in production, and even features in a famous poem about cigars by Rudyard Kipling. The Montecarlo’s flavours are rich, smooth and delivered with a creamy earthiness. It pairs perfectly with a morning coffee (or two – it will smoke for an hour!) or as an after-lunch smoke. This cigar does not need much age to be at its best, but it does need to rest properly at the correct humidity after shipping. Very good value for money.

The Por Larrañaga Montecarlo makes a fascinating change from most smokers’ usual diet of coronas, robustos and toros, and it is safe to say it is one of the most rewarding “skinnies” on the market. The smoke is sweet and creamy, with excellent complexity and notes of coffee, toast, vanilla, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, baking spices, mint and coriander, with refreshing hints of lemongrass on the finish. This is an “any time of day cigar” that is always fun to smoke. You might be pleasantly surprised, however, if you pair it with a not-too-peaty malt whisky.
Please Note: The Montecarlo needs to be smoked gently. If you hammer slender cigars they will burn too hot and the smoke will be acrid and bitter!
Please Note: We are probably the only cigar seller in the world who points this out, but badly constructed Cuban Cigars are more common than you might think. Buy at your own risk.
